11. Matt Hardy Continues Despite Disturbing Bump
It's AEW All Out 2020 again!
That pay-per-view housed the aforementioned, woeful 'Tooth & Nail' match between Britt Baker and Big Swole, but there was another nasty surprise waiting for fans deeper into the card. Matt Hardy vs. Sammy Guevara was presented as a 'Broken Rules' affair, but it was pretty much 'Last Man Standing'.
Things were going...OK before Matt took a hellish bump off a scissor lift through a table. Never mind that the wood was bafflingly set up to sell merchandise even though fans weren’t in attendance, because there was a bigger problem: Hardy’s landing looked disgusting. He was visibly out of it, but the match continued to honour the finish.
Honestly, that just shouldn't have happened. There's no way officials should've let Matt soldier on, not in 2020. By then, everyone knew the risks of serious head injuries/concussions, and Hardy was 100% seeing stars after his fall. His eyes were glazed over, he was stumbling around like he barely even knew where he was, and he clearly needed medical attention.
'The show must go on' reared its ugly head because the pre-agreed stipulation stated that Matt would have to leave AEW if he lost. Sorry, but someone's long-term health is not more important than that. There's always a work-around, and this wasn't a minor injury Hardy could brush off.
He didn't stub his toe whilst brawling, basically. He almost brained himself after falling from a fair height, and that should've been the concern - not the match or the pay-per-view. Continuing was risky and unnecessary.
