Mick Foley still sees fans shaking their heads and thoroughly disgusted with him during meet and greet sessions to this day. OK, probably not, but Mick did introduce the dire 24/7 Title. WWE wanted him to put it over as the second coming of the old Hardcore Title concept, but the belt itself looked like a fancy chocolate biscuit brand more than a rowdy wrestling championship.

24/7 was reintroduced in 2019, but some of its worst moments happened in 2020. On the 21 September Raw, one Akira Tozawa was apparently eaten alive by a shark when trying to joust for ownership with walking punchline R-Truth. The next week, Truth received a letter revealing that Tozawa had faked his own death so he could show up to surprise him.

Maybe don't send that letter in advance, Akira. You fool!

Perhaps the worst thing about all of this is that it took place during the last stretches of a saccharine, Vince McMahon-led WWE environment. It was like the old boss took anything potentially funny and painstakingly stripped it of any humour. Comedy became "WWE comedy", and that's not meant as a compliment at all.

Putting Truth and Tozawa at the beach was one thing, but pretending that the latter had been munched by a great white was too much. Truth didn't care - he was far too busy hugging the 24/7 Title like his name was Gollum and he'd found his precious.

Man, some of the 24/7 stuff they wheeled out truly was the pits.
