There are so many ways in which AEW's more adult take on professional wrestling was welcome in 2021. If Lily The Doll and Nikki Almost a Super Hero made you want to never watch wrestling again, there was finally somewhere else to go that catered to an audience who wanted a less Vince McMahon-flavoured product.

The on-screen presence of Dan Lambert made this alternative a whole lot less appealing in 2021. As head of the MMA training team, ATT (American Top Team), Lambert trained fighters who had more than a dash of professional wrestling in their psyche. Lambert tried to bring an edgier brand of mic work during his run in AEW, but instead came off like a blathering old dickhead. Using crass playground insults and reaching for more low-hanging fruit than Hornswoggle in an orchard, Lambert's insensitive and witless insults were even beneath Reddit's worst bedroom dwellers. Worst of all, Dan recruited people like Ethan Page to join him, taking mic time from the future NXT champion and reducing him to a role where he had to stand next to this wrinkled old ballbag and laugh at his boorish punchlines.
