11. CM Punk Gets Injured

CM Punk remains such a polarising figure that many saw his Royal Rumble injury as some sort of grim karmic retribution. The ink on his contract was still as wet as some of the tears on those same fans' pillows when he proceeded to play his part in the company's best feud of the year despite being crocked for over half of it, but the Rumble tricep tear was an emotional and literal body blow all the same.

Bouncing back from injuries that - amongst obvious other things - blighted the tail end of his AEW tenure, Punk and his devoted followers wanted a WWE run that could take him from that iconic Survivor Series comeback right to the WrestleMania main event he so desperately craved last time around. After that, it wasn't meant to be.

Drew McIntyre probably didn't prey for that, but he most likely would have been more than happy with the rest of the outcomes from a hugely prosperous 2024.
