Highlighted as a 'one that got away' from the WWE system in the aftermath of his Wrestle Kingdom classic, Omega's 2005-2006 run in company feeder Deep South Wrestling was considered a massive failure, and retrospectively a huge waste of an incredible performer.

Reporting to the territory in October 2005, Kenny left acrimoniously less than a year later, citing how negative the experience was under the tutelage of controversial trainers Bill DeMott, Jody Hamilton and Bob Holly.

Outside of brief praise for Dave Taylor, Omega remained confident his growth would be expedited elsewhere, and returned with a flourish to the North American independent scene to highlight exactly that.

Ten years hence, Kenny finds himself as the hottest property in the wrestling world, and a return to WWE at its highest level would vindicate his daring self-belief during a career low-point.

By awarding Omega victory in the Royal Rumble (and by default, a main event position at Wrestlemania), WWE would remind fellow developmental refugees that a new start is always possible in their ever-changing landscape as they continue to aggressively recruit from previously untapped wells.
