4 Ups & 4 Downs Before WWE SummerSlam 2017

2. A Lot Of SummerSlam's Card Feels Like Filler

Of the 12 matches scheduled for SummerSlam (including the ones relegated to the Kickoff slots), how many feel essential? Trimming the fat from the card is pretty easy. For a start, matches like Randy Orton vs. Rusev, John Cena vs. Baron Corbin, Big Show vs. Big Cass, Finn Bálor vs. Bray Wyatt and the aforementioned women's matches don't feel important.

That's 6 matches you could take away from SummerSlam without hurting the show; half the card could be eliminated. That's scary. This is supposed to be one of the biggest and best WWE shows of the year, almost like the WrestleMania of the Summer months. SummerSlam isn't coming across that way, because the booking has been lazy.

For every interesting scenario like the main event Fatal-4-Way or the United States Title match, there's a random bout that seemingly only exists so guys like Orton and Cena can get pay-per-view pay days. Even the WWE Title match feels like it's been thrown together.
