4 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE SmackDown (23 May - Results & Review)

Charlotte Flair vs. Giulia vs. Zelina Vega was really, really good. It was the best match on this week's show by a long, long way. It’d take some match to top what Bianca Belair, Rhea Ripley and IYO Sky did at WrestleMania 41, but this was awesome, pulsating and had a refreshing end result; Giulia was a genuinely fresh winner, and it’ll be interesting to see what she can do in a Money In The Bank ladder match.

The ex-NXT star pinned Vega, so there could be a Women’s US Title shot in her future too. Meanwhile, Charlotte Flair’s bluster not coming through for her anymore after defeats to Tiffany Stratton at 'Mania and again here is something to keep an eye on. She's going overboard on the bragging comments about being a 14-time champion over the mic, then eating humble pie physically in-ring. That's a story WWE can continue to develop over the next few months.

This three-way proved to be a hot match that had the live crowd rocking. Credit must go to Charlotte for being so giving too. She sprinkled a few heat spots in there, and dominated both Giulia and Zelina at various moments, but then Flair cleverly let them take control and fire back against her as she looked on helpless. That formatting kept the bout moving along at a nice pace.

Not many would've been calling for Charlotte or Zelina at MITB, so it's cool that Triple H went with Giulia instead. She'll need a real star-making performance in the ladder bout to cement her place on the SmackDown crew, but this was a good start to life on the WWE main roster.
