4 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE SmackDown (30 May - Results & Review)

1. Men’s Qualifier Ticks A Lot Of Boxes

Jacob Faru Carmelo Hayes Andrade

Andrade winning this match was a bit of a surprise considering Jacob Fatu was involved, but ‘El Idolo’ will work some nice spots at MITB and deserved something to hang his hat on after an unhealthy chunk of time spinning his wheels. Carmelo Hayes and Andrade have natural chemistry, so having them wrestle with Fatu in the mix was some laugh, and it acted as a welcome reminder of their stunning series last year.

This had bags more energy than the women’s three way earlier in the show. Jacob ending himself by crashing through the barricade looked crazy, Andrade likely had a spring in his step because he knew he was going over in an important match for once, and there's the sense that Hayes is ready for more focus from WWE's writers soon too. Y'know, unless they're still interested in making he and The Miz a tag-team threat.

JC Mateo and Solo Sikoa costing Jacob at least motors that story forwards. With Solo/JC then Damian Priest on the back burner, things look rather swish for Fatu and for the United States Title hunt generally. There's a lot to like about how this one ended up. It had a slightly shocking winner, Carmelo Hayes looked confident and on his game, and Fatu is still getting top star level reactions from live crowds no matter which town WWE visits.

Credit to all of these men for picking up the pace and having some fun out there without sacrificing story. That's the most important thing to WWE, and it was nice that the three-way understood that.
