Excluding the hour spent wearing out the red carpet, WWE's Hall of Fame 2018 ran for just over four and a half hours. In that time, the International Space Station will have completed three orbits of the entire planet. The astronauts could have watched all three Toy Story movies back to back whilst they did it.

In other words, it was all a bit much.

The autocue was visible throughout the gala, suggesting most of the speeches were pre-approved rather than off the cuff, which is a damning indictment on the company's inability to produce a ceremony which doesn't utterly exhaust those in attendance.

The Hall of Fame is a very worthy event, but tokenism, brand-building, and encroaching 'sports entertainment' are causing it to descend into a total slog. With viable names rapidly drying up, perhaps it's time WWE considered inducting fewer people per year - or maybe even shelving the ceremony for a bit?

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
