Things got a little less cut and dry last night. Most fans would logically expect Balor to roll into Tokyo on Saturday and walk away with the NXT championship. Kevin Owens is busy on the main roster (competing for another title, no less), Balor will receive a hero's welcome in Japan and the 'Who Is Finn Balor' has been really heavily hinting at a title change. But maybe, just maybe, it's not as certain as all that. Until lat night, Kevin Owens was undefeated in NXT. Sure, Cena pinned him at Money In The Bank, but at Full Sail he'd yet to rack up a single pinfall loss. That all ended last night in the tag match main event. Normally, that would be seen as quite a baffling decision, especially with Rhyno also in the match, who could eat a pin without anyone batting an eyelid. Instead, Balor pinned Owens. NXT aren't dumb, they know that Kevin Owens being pinned by an NXT superstar would be the perfect thing to save for Japan. Does this all hint at title retention from Owens? After all, anyone who knows how WWE like to book knows that if someone wins big on the last RAW or Smackdown before a PPV, it generally means that they will come up short on the Sunday. It would certainly be considered a swerve after all the foreshadowing, and would garner huge heat for Owens to beat Balor in Japan. Considering how set WWE has become on forging Kevin Owens into the biggest heel on the roster, it's certainly not impossible. The NXT championship match just got a little less easy to call, and that can only be a good thing for the fans set to tune in on Saturday.
