4 Ups And 4 Downs From Last Night's WWE Smackdown (Jan 3)

3. Character Development

Kalisto Dolph

The first match on the show was Baron Corbin versus Dolph Ziggler, and needless to say, nobody was waiting for this one with baited breath. These two men, if you'll recall, had a really awful feud last year, and no measure of revisiting it is necessary.

Thankfully, this match was better than most of the ones they had last year, but the result was no surprise - Baron Corbin got the clean win with the End of Days. After the match, he got a chair and wanted to continue the assault, but the ode to the worst of 2016 continued when Kalisto came in to make the save. He ran Corbin off, but when Dolph got to his feet, he laid the former U.S. Champion out with a superkick.

Lest we think this was just a babyface being pissy and not a full-fledged heel turn, Dolph got into an altercation with Apollo Crews in a backstage segment. Now, we'll all see if this bit of much-needed progression was too little, too late.
