4 Ups And 4 Downs From Last Night's WWE Smackdown (Jan 3)
2. One Last Signing
At the top of the hour, it was time for the official contract signing between John Cena and AJ Styles. Cena and Styles have been feuding for a while, and this isn't even their first contract signing, but if you missed the show, I recommend trying to find the segment because it was really great.
Styles was first to speak, and he appealed to Daniel Bryan - as a fellow indy guy with a passion for wrestling - not to give Cena the title shot he didn't deserve. When that didn't work, he tore into Cena, comparing him to The Rock for leaving wrestling for Hollywood - but reminding him that he would never be as big as The Rock, or as good in the ring as him.
Cena fired back by saying that he needed to win to prove to people like Styles that he wasn't done, and that he'd do just that, and there was nothing Styles could do about it. That brought out Baron Corbin, who announced that he would be in the Rumble, and that he would defeat whomever he had to in order to become WWE Champion at WrestleMania. It looked like Cena and Corbin were about to fight, but Styles laid out Cena with a dropkick before heading for the hills.
