When Heath Slater was missed out of the WWE Draft, the company created a unique story for the man. As a 'free agent', he is continually seeking employment on either Raw or SmackDown. It may not be the biggest role, but it's better than doing nothing at all for the former Social Outcast.

This week on SmackDown, he had to defeat Rhyno to earn a deal with the blue brand. Slater was unsuccessful, but was due to be handed a contract by Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan anyway. That was before he went off on one to management, costing himself the prospective deal.

Before Heath interrupted their little meeting, Bryan and Shane confusingly downplayed SmackDown. Bryan outright said that Slater reminded him of the show, because he lost but showed heart. This did little to put over the new era of the program, and actually came across as a verbal slip.
