4 Ups And 4 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (May 28)

2. Kevin Owens Showed Confidence In His Smackdown Debut

It was the Smackdown debut of NXT Champion Kevin Owens, who has an incredibly bright future in WWE and is only starting to make a difference. There were replays that showed his two attacks on John Cena to welcome him. This promo did an excellent job of showing that Owens is a very confident performer that said he's dominated everywhere he's been in the 15 years. Every time Michael Cole tried to get going with a more formal interview, Owens cut him off like a jerk and took the opportunity to mock John Cena even though he said he respected him. The Owens line about Cena having "57 terrible t-shirt designs" was the best line of them all. Owens' also showed a clip of when he destroyed Sami Zayn with a Powerbomb on the side of the ring apron at NXT Takeover last week. He explained that he took out Sami Zayn, who was his best friend, and that's what he did to him, so if he's willing to do that to somebody he cares about then imagine what he'll do to Cena. And that's a great selling point for the match on Sunday night. Why aren't more heels booked the way Owens is? It's about presenting a guy to carry himself to be a star, show that he's not afraid to back down from anybody and most importantly he backs up what he says. WWE has too many cocky heels that lose far too often. Owens works so well because he's a great talker and wrestler, but it's also due to how he's presented.
