AJ Styles' Phenomenal appearance on last night's 2.0 may have come a little out of left field from the moment it was announced on Monday night, but once the dust had settled on his eventual altercation with the most despised lad in NXT it made all the sense in the world.

Grayson Waller had been causing havoc both on social media and within the CWC in the lead-up to his verbal showdown with the former WWE Champion, running down Styles' "mom haircut" and jumping Dexter Lumis a week removed from battering LA Knight. What followed was a fairly straight forward fiercely over veteran reminding a cocky up-and-comer who's boss exchange.

Styles remarked how Waller's attire reminded him of a certain 20-year wrestling icon, only for the Aussie to note that Styles was pretty brave to fire shots off without his recently departing meal ticket. Things would predictably escalate to the point of potential physicality before weasel Waller retreated to fight anther day.

When exactly that day will be remains to be seen, but there's no questioning that Styles' comments of Waller wanting the Phenomenal rub ultimately rang true. The multi-coloured pain in the ass actually legitimately feels like a bit of a big deal on the back of his jumping of Johnny Wrestling and clashing with (of?) Styles. And your writer couldn't think of a better late Christmas gift than the sight of AJ cutting loose inside of an NXT ring at New Year's Evil.. if Omos doesn't murder him on Raw, mind.
