When the Cruiserweight Classic was announced last year, it was billed as a collection of some of the most talented smaller wrestlers in the world. Pound for pound, it was a great gathering of talent, and the CWC produced some excellent matches.

But the new WWE Cruiserweight division has not been a worthy successor of that tournament. And while it’s had its moments, the division has been flailing at times. Adding new talent like Neville helped interject some life into the division, but the most recent addition is more likely to be subtraction by addition.

Enzo Amore made his debut in the cruiserweight division, battling and defeating Noam Dar with Xavier Woods’ Lost in the Woods (or Gail Kim’s Eat Defeat) – a finishing move he almost botched.

Amore’s value is as a manager/hype man, not as a serious challenger for Neville, which is what he’s being positioned as being right now. Enzo might add a little “star” power to the cruiserweight division, but he’s not the guy to elevate the division, and in fact might stand a better chance of dragging it down by pulling focus from quality in-ring action to more promos and skits.

If it works, more power to WWE, but we’re doubtful.
