4 Ups And 9 Downs From WWE Super Showdown 2020

Once Goldberg won the WWE Universal Championship, the speculation machine was in overdrive: Who will line up to take the title away from the only person to take the unbeatable Fiend down?

The obvious answer is Roman Reigns. Because that’s what WWE loves to do: create opportunities for Roman to have his big WrestleMania moment. It would be a battle of the spears, which might be fun, but come on, how contrived can you get? Goldberg shows up out of the blue, challenges and beats the unbeatable champion, and then Reigns comes along and beats that guy.

Of course, the alternative would be John Cena announcing that he’s facing the champ at WrestleMania, which would mean we’re getting a semi-retired 53-year-old against a semi-retired 42-year-old for one of WWE’s world titles.

Look, we’ve been over this: The matches themselves don’t sell WrestleMania at this point. The PPV and brand itself sell the show. But if WWE thinks Goldberg versus Reigns or Goldberg versus Cena is the “money match,” who are we to question the brilliance of XFL Commissioner Vince McMahon?
