5 Biggest Missed Opportunities From WWE Elimination Chamber 2020
3. Not Cutting Out The Filler
After the travesty that was the lacklustre end of Aleister Black's dominance on Raw last week, the WWE Universe was hoping to see him get some retribution through his No DQ rematch against AJ Styles at Elimination Chamber. While the match allowed him to successfully do so and apparently set up The Undertaker vs. AJ Styles for WrestleMania, the contest itself left quite a lot to be desired.
Not a bad offering by any means, the two attempted to work a relatively slow brawl at the beginning before eventually working their way up to enjoyable territory towards the end. However, whether it be the attempted submissions, the obligatory (and predictable) kendo stick spots or just the poor pacing, this acceptable showdown ended up dragging quite a bit in the middle and ultimately felt like everything that happened between those bells could have been accomplished in a much shorter amount of time.
Styles' matches these days tend to adopt the slow-build format, but as they end up dragging on for so long, these potentially great offerings always end up suggesting hat they'd be that much better if he quickened the pace a little. Yes, he has told some amazing stories in the ring but as of late, the matches always feel like they're just one tweak away from perfection - and that tweak involves the pacing.
Styles vs. Black was a good match, but there was a great match in there somewhere - and it's a damn shame they couldn't cut out enough of the filler to find it.
