5 Biggest Missed Opportunities From WWE Extreme Rules 2019

1. Same Old, Same Old

Brock Lesnar Extreme Rules

It really looked like WWE had finally figured it all out. It really did.

They managed to pull off an incredibly successful PPV in Extreme Rules, one that was packed full of genuinely entertaining barn-burners, with only a couple of minor flaws. Oh yeah, and even The Undertaker delivered an incredible performance... in 2019!

Now, after what we've seen from the company in recent months, that right there is a major victory... or at least it was. Sadly, the ending told a very different story.

Brock Lesnar's Universal Championship win wasn't just a sour note to end a shockingly feel-good event on, it was a slap in the face to each and every member of the WWE Universe who genuinely thought that the company was moving in the right direction. Yet again, we believed, and yet again, we were disappointed.

A baffling creative move, this threatens to take WWE back to those dark ages of vanishing champions and mind-numbingly one-sided Universal Championship matches, and quite frankly, that is not what the company needs right now.

Even the idea of Rollins winning the gold back at SummerSlam seems pointless, simply because it will be a rehash of the pair's WrestleMania program and take us all right back to where we were before 'The Beast' cashed in.

Extreme Rules was an event that promised to take WWE a few steps forward, but in one single swoop, ended up taking it ten steps back. In doing so, it suggested that change is no longer on the horizon.
