5 Reasons AEW Should Sign Cesaro AEW (& 5 Reasons They Shouldn’t)
2. Reason he shouldn’t: The weight of fan expectations
After years of campaigning for Cesaro to get a main event push in WWE, some fans won’t be happy if the former Bar man is doing anything other than challenging for and winning his new promotion’s top title. If that new promotion is AEW, they might wind up disappointed.
Tony Khan already has a busy world title picture to manage. The likes of Adam Cole, CM Punk, MJF and others are either already in Hangman Adam Page’s orbit or being built up for a shot down the line. Cesaro is a phenomenal in-ring talent but he’s not a big enough to star to just walk in and take over.
No doubt a Cesaro run would offer banger matches and consistent booking. He won’t be made to yodel or pretend that he’s a suave James Bond-style ladies' man. That said, he probably won’t be world champion or even yet another guy who can’t take a loss. Is Khan prepared for the potential backlash when some people realise the reality of Cesaro’s AEW run doesn’t live up to their fantasy?
