5 Reasons WWE Should Hire CM Punk (... & 5 Reasons They Shouldn't!)

1. Shouldn't - ...Until It Isn't

...and it's a pretty big one.

Put simply, if Punk ever does return to the WWE then everyone - the fans, the wrestlers, the owners - is going to be permanently waiting for the other shoe to drop. Because given Punk's form in the past two years, something will set him off, and the fallout won't be easy to sweep under a rug.

Punk was given an unprecedented amount of freedom in AEW. He had his own show, staffed with his own hand-picked wrestlers and a say in all storylines involving him, and it still wasn't enough to dislodge the chip on his shoulder. Given the much more restrictive creative environment Punk would be subjected to in WWE, can anyone honestly say they foresee a happy ending to his second sojourn alongside McMahon and co.?

Punk's beef with his AEW co-workers created the uneasiest wrestling environment since the war between the Hart family and Shawn Michaels back in 1997, and it poisoned the overall product. WWE would need to keep Punk content for him to be worth the time and money they invest in him, and history shows that's no easy task.

If WWE can pull off the seemingly impossible and keep Punk happy, healthy and motivated then they - and wrestling fans the world over - will reap the benefits enormously. But that's a hell of an "if", and one that relies on wrestling's most notoriously short-tempered talent to play ball. And the truth is, it's hard for anyone to enjoy themselves when they're waiting for the big kid with the short fuse to blow up and take their ball home.
