5 Things We Want To See After WWE Royal Rumble 2022 (And 5 We Don’t)
4. Don’t: Drew McIntyre vs The Happy Folks continued
Drew McIntyre’s appearance at the Rumble was a genuine surprise. Ahead of schedule, he returned from injury, brutalised Baron Corbin and Madcap Moss, and went on to finish runner up. All of this is excellent news - as long as his angle with the twosome christened “The Happy Folks” on commentary is hereby over.
McIntyre has been in curious stasis ever since dropping his World Championship to The Miz. After a spectacular 2020, he seemed on the cusp of overexposure and possible fan rejection but kept things going with great, hard-hitting matches against Bobby Lashley and Sheamus.
Now, though, he feels a mile from the main event and with no real way in. He shouldn’t be immediately rematching Lashley at ‘Mania. There’s no way he can breach Roman/Brock. Him and Lesnar going at it in front of fans would be a just reward for the Scot, but that would be some while in the future, assuming Brock sticks around.
Which leaves, in all likelihood, a match with Baron Corbin at WrestleMania 38. In spite of the qualities of both guys, that’s a booking you’d really struggle to get excited about.
