5 Ups & 1 Down From AEW Rampage (July 22)
AEW turns into ROH; Rampage puts on a rap battle; Hangman Page is totally lost in the mix?
Christopher Daniels just wrestled his very first match on Rampage.
The near 30-year veteran doesn't show up on AEW TV much these days, so it was a real treat to see him work through the gears in the main event; for reference, Daniels' last major televised bout for All Elite was an 11-minute loss to technical wizard Bryan Danielson on the 2 March episode of Dynamite.
A rare appearance from the 'Fallen Angel' wasn't random though. No, Tony Khan's ROH had a pay-per-view to build for Saturday night, and they went about that in fine fashion by programming Chris opposite Jay Lethal. There was a healthy amount of Samoa Joe context too, although the reigning ROH TV Champion didn't show up on Rampage.
Elsewhere, Claudio Castagnoli delivered a message to Jonathan Gresham, Lee Moriarty teased a new alliance, AEW might've stumbled upon something special in the women's division, and a "sports entertainment" style rap battle exceeded expectations.
If only a former AEW World Champion wasn't totally lost in the shuffle, eh? His plight was actually the only negative from an otherwise-fine hour of wrestling and promos.
