5 Ups & 2 Downs From WWE SmackDown (July 7)

1. Ending With A Bang

Jey Uso Crowd

Jey Uso was on fire in that closing segment.

The dude looked like a bigger deal than ever back in 2020 thanks to how seriously Roman Reigns treated him in-ring, but you can sense Jey has much more confidence in himself these days compared to back then. It certainly doesn't hurt that live crowds are booming for him (which has to feel good).

Jey's, "I'm the judge, jury and executioner" line was killer. Uso vs. Roman will be one hell of a match, and it again shows the importance of epic storytelling and top character work over random "dream" matches for the sake of it. The fact this Bloodline story hasn't needed to call on The Rock as some sort of 'in emergency break glass' trump card says it all.

SmackDown closed with the visual of Uso holding Roman's new Undisputed Title belt, and he vowed to rip through his cousin one-on-one come the next pay-per-view. Seriously, SummerSlam just cannot come soon enough. Encore! Encore!

What a segment, what a story.
