5 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE Raw (18 Dec - Results & Review)

6. A Holiday-Themed Street Fight That Works
If it’s the holiday episode of Raw, then there must be a Miracle on 34th Street Fight to “entertain” fans. Christmas trees will be wielded. Kendo sticks will be wrapped like candy canes. And somehow, fire extinguishers and tables will be used as if they’re associated with the holiday season.
But R-Truth and JD McDonagh managed to have a fun little street fight that didn’t take itself too seriously, but carried some “real” consequences: the loser had to leave the Judgment Day. The delusional Truth making the stipulation caused a chuckle, but Damian Priest agreeing to it was perfectly in character with his longstanding dislike of JD. He clearly enjoyed putting McDonagh in a bind and probably didn’t even care if he got turfed from the group.
(Spoiler: Judgment Day didn’t honor the stipulation, like a good heel act.)
R-Truth deserves credit for finding his comic stride a bit. After a few weeks of unfunny backstage segments, he delivered a good performance alongside the Judgment Day, with his disdain for McDonagh allowing him to find common ground with Priest (who cracked up at some of Truth’s comments).
Maybe ‘tis the season, because if WWE keeps going back to the well with Truth, it probably won’t be received quite as favorably.
