5 Ups & 4 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Dec 26)

1. Revolution? Riott? Rubbish.

When Charlotte Flair made the jump to Smackdown Live! in April's 'Superstar Shake-up', it marked an overdue babyface turn for the longstanding heel. Sensing her imminent threat, Natalya, Tamina and Carmella formed the 'Welcoming Committee', a group intent on stopping 'The Queen' taking the throne as she had with such aplomb on Monday Nights.

As evidenced by Flair's current status, the plan failed, but the logical storytelling (that in turn afforded numerous combinations of matches between the group, Charlotte, and any existing babyfaces willing to aid her cause) was the best the blue brand women's division got all year.

It was perhaps why the company elected to get the band back together to chase off the Riott Squad as they decked Naomi and Charlotte, but with Becky Lynch soon to return to presumably team up with the babyfaces, the whole thing began to stink of the ill-conceived 2015 'Divas Revolution'.

Forcing the women into trios as a lazy creative device didn't work then, and it stands to go even worse this time with the likes of Lana and Liv Morgan doing the in-ring heavy lifting.

Ahead of the listless Riott/Naomi match and scuffle that followed, WWE patted themselves on the back yet again for the Women's Royal Rumble this time in the form of a video package showcasing many of the key moments from the performers that helped elevate the league to this point. It's a big shame this show had less concern in actually adding to it.
