5 Ups & 5 Downs From Last Night's WWE NXT (Jan 8)

1. The Main Event

Keith Lee Priest Dijakovic
WWE

At one point in this match, Dominic Dijakovic suplexes Damien Priest, only to have him caught in mid-air by Kieth Lee. Lee then swings Priest into Grimes, then into Dijakovic, before power-bombing Grimes into the latter's back. Damien Priest is 6"5', and 250lbs...

Despite a fairly hit and miss show up until this point, the main event delivered in the sort of way only an NXT main event can. The chemistry was excellent, the spots were inventive and, despite this obviously being Lee's moment, you bought into the idea that all 4 of these men could potentially win the thing. The work done in getting Grimes' stomp finisher over has been nothing short of miraculous.

The offence was as hard-hitting as it was athletic, and a reminder of just how brilliant a WWE show can be when you're not lumbering your talent with lame gimmicks or 50/50 booking. Lee will go on to face Roderick Strong for the NXT North American Championship now which, despite something we've seen plenty of times before, still feels like unmissable pro-wrestling.
