5 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE Raw (22 May - Results & Review)

2. Trish Struggles To Carry Promo

Maybe it’s because it’s just tough to boo Trish Stratus after being a babyface in WWE lore for nearly 20 years, but this rivalry with Becky Lynch has been pretty disappointing.

Stratus tried to play the traditional heel during her contract signing with Lynch, badmouthing the host city of Raw, mocking Becky’s attire, and taking credit for everything positive that’s happened in women’s wrestling in the past 10 years. Her comment about not needing a broken nose to become #1 in WWE was unintentionally funny when you consider that she had a storyline broken nose during her milestone 2004 Raw main event match against Lita.

Lynch fired some truths at Trish, notable that fans remember her as being better than she was, and then brought up the “bark like a dog” incident with Mr. McMahon, which is hardly the reminder fans needed, considering WWE is trying to paint Stratus as a “trailblazer” in women’s wrestling. Somehow, crawling on all fours in her underwear and barking like a dog doesn’t quite translate.

Sorry, we’ve been patient with this one, but it just hasn’t clicked how it should have, and while the match on the night might be fine, the build has been less than entertaining.
