5 Ups & 6 Downs From WWE Raw (29 April - Results & Review)

1. Drew’s Obsession, Punk’s Mind Games

CM Punk might not be cleared for action yet, but he did plenty to sell a future collision with Drew McIntyre Monday night.

The Scottish Warrior was incensed about being passed over during the draft and falling to a later round, while Punk was drafted in the second round Monday. This played out over several segments, with Drew seething backstage and lashing out at Booker T, then griping onstage after being drafted, only to learn that Punk was at Raw, in a luxury box.

This sent McIntyre on a wild goose chase, which ended wonderfully when he found the suite, only to discover it was empty – aside from a signed 8x10 glossy – and Punk suddenly made his entrance into the arena to cut a promo on his rival.

Not once did the announcers use the phrase “mind games,” but that’s exactly what was playing out here, with Punk recognizing McIntyre’s obsession and playing into it. He noted that losers pray for things to occur, while winners make things happen, and he promised to make Drew’s life “a living hell.”

The promo wasn’t Punk’s strongest, but the cat-and-mouse game through the arena was fantastic stuff, making this easily one of the most hotly anticipated matches of the summer (or whenever Punk returns to action).
