5 Ups And 11 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (May 27)
6. Shane The Wrestling Machine
Does anyone out there buy Shane McMahon as a threat to Roman Reigns? Even with Drew McIntyre, whom Reigns defeated at WrestleMania last month?
But hey, let’s give Shane promo time to run his mouth about Samoan history and run down the Wild Samoans to get this feud over. Nevermind that fans chanted “boring” throughout it, or that they turned on the subsequent match against Anoa’i family member Lance Anoa’i. This is all supposed to make us want to see Shane and Roman tangle at Super Showdown.
But let’s be realistic, Shane’s offense is a joke to begin with, and while it was a series of “downs” for this feud with The Miz, the idea that McMahon – even with McIntyre at his side – is supposed to be taken seriously is just madness.
Compare this to Vince McMahon when he was feuding with Steve Austin. Vince was never treated as a serious threat, but the talk was all about his lieutenants getting involved and pummeling Stone Cold. Otherwise, everyone knew Vince was toast. Today, Shane is presented as a competent wrestler who can absorb punishment and deliver submission holds at will.
