5 Ups And 2 Downs From Last Night's WWE Talking Smack (Jan 31)

1. Up - Yes!

Daniel Bryan Talking Smack
WWE

Despite some surprisingly personable displays from Shane McMahon in the co-host's chair in recent weeks, the return of Daniel Bryan to Talking Smack was a welcome surprise, especially in a such a key week for the show.

With his Royal Rumble breakdown, additions to the Elimination Chamber card, and insightful musings with every superstar guest, it was a sharp reminder of how valuable the former Undisputed Champion is to both the wrap-around vehicle, and the WWE fold in general.

Bryan is extremely believable in his role as a supportive General Manager to Smackdown Live talent, and added nuance and depth to the verbiage throughout the broadcast.

Referencing their aforementioned absence from the Royal Rumble, Bryan opened the door for American Alpha to claim back their pride as Tag Team kingpins.

With Randy Orton, Bryan drew comparisons between 'The Apex Predator's current situation and his previous Orlando WrestleMania appearance, which steered the Royal Rumble winner into further discussion of his dominance at the highest level in WWE.

It was with Naomi especially where Bryan added value though, bringing humour and charm to discussion of her WrestleMania dreams that legitimised her unlikely title chase with Alexa Bliss.

With the imminent arrival of Bryan and wife Brie Bella's baby daughter, Talking Smack will be infinitely weaker for his paternity leave.
