5 Ups And 3 Downs From Last Night’s WWE SmackDown (Jan 28)

Ups...

5. The New Day Opened The Show In Fine Fashion

On his popular podcast, WWE Hall Of Fame announcer Jim Ross regularly states his belief that The New Day can't accurately be considered heels. JR's reasoning for this is that they are rarely on the receiving end of boos from fans. By contrast, people find the trio incredibly entertaining, which they most certainly are. Kicking off the latest edition of Smackdown, Xavier Woods, Big E and Kofi Kingston wanted to discuss The Rock's dissing of them on Monday Night Raw. The recap package detailing what happened on Monday did feel a little lengthy, but it's a smart move to use Rock's star power to feature New Day. There's also a purpose behind it, because of his family ties with The Usos, who are feuding with the WWE Tag-Team Champions. Statements such as Big E calling The Rock, 'Doo Doo Mouth Johnson' are wacky, but they're also what The New Day are all about. They are comedic heels, and the most important thing is that they continue to be entertaining. Besides, the whole promo parlayed into a match which allowed babyfaces to look strong. That's far from a negative.
