5 Ups And 3 Downs From UFC 246

Downs...

2. Safe And Sorry

Although it was a return to winning ways for former UFC bantamweight champion, Holly Holm, it certainly wasn't the most exciting way to get back into the win column. While her win against Raquel Pennington was far more decisive than their first bout, it was about as entertaining too. Which is to say, that it wasn't very entertaining at all.

Holm is a really technical striker who utilises her range brilliantly, so no-one expects her to act reckless and stand and bang with her opponents. However, with the sort of talent she has in her striking, it was a shame that she never really landed anything of importance utilising that weapon. Even in her post-fight interview, she mentioned that she wish she'd have decided to strike more, which proves that she knows that she missed a good opportunity to remind people how dangerous she is.

Instead, she opted to control Pennington up against the cage, landing strikes and exhausting her as she struggled to get away. While it was a solid victory against a very tough opponent, it's not the type of win that's going to get her a rematch against women's bantamweight champion, Amanda Nunes, any time soon.
