5 Ups And 5 Downs From Last Night's WWE NXT (May 6)

Ups...

4. Women Put On Match Of The Night

By contrast, the opening match was a pleasant surprise, despite a slightly confusing booking decision. It makes sense that a wrestler as hot as Charlotte was should pick up a win to keep her momentum spinning on, but picking up one over Emma, who's still embroiled in a feud with Bayley, seemed like an odd decision. Either way though, the ladies put on a fine show. Emma showed off her increased aggression, savaging Charlotte's knee, whipping her leg out from under her and hanging her up in the ropes. Charlotte proved herself to be an accomplished storyteller, gamely fighting on, keeping the crowd firmly in her corner as she battled the Australian Aggressor. There weren't any huge spots to speak of, but the injury told a good story, and the crowd were hot for it, which is more than could be said for the main event. The post-match segment was strong too, Bayley hugging the defeated Emma, then refusing to release her, turning the hug into a Bayley to Belly. Bayley had to be pulled off of Emma by Charlotte, ramping up the anticipation for their upcoming match.
