5 Ups And 5 Downs From WWE NXT 2.0 (Dec 7)
1. Grayson Waller Steals Johnny Wrestling's Moment
From the reaction Johnny Gargano received upon simply rearing his loveable head in the closing stages of last night's show alone, it's evident NXT has quite the job on its hands when it comes to building stars of tomorrow capable of provoking a similar response.
But in the here and now, this moment was about an off-the-cuff Johnny Wrestling confessing his unashamed love for all thing developmental. Going through his career on the former black and gold show, Johnny recalled being told he'd never make it onto the show in that very same building in 2015, only to slowly steal the show with a little help of those singing his name throughout his dark matches against the likes of Apollo Crews.
A truly touching and authentic moment, all in all, it was just a shame that the aura of this whole thing being an elaborate work took a touch of the shine off what was otherwise about as real a promo as you're ever likely to see. But that feeling of this entire show-closing segment being a storyline development was only further hammered home by the interruption of Grayson Waller, wielding a chair as he smashed and skewered the former NXT Champion with the steel weapon.
Though Gargano did state that his future is still "up in the air", you have to imagine a feud with Waller is next in line for the NXT veteran, with a backstage trainer role potentially being on the horizon for him soon enough, too. Waller took his moment well, coming off like every bit the despicable a-hole. And this could very much be his time to break out as the next generation heel this brand is crying out for.
Fingers on the "Like" button, just in case...
