5 Ups And 6 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (Oct 29)

2. A ‘Global PPV’

WWE’s desperate attempt to threat the needle with Crown Jewel continued Monday night, as the announcers and wrestlers avoided all references to the location of Friday’s PPV, even as they reminded everyone repeatedly that they were in Flair Country, that Super Show-Down was in Australia, and that Evolution took place in New York.

The company’s decision to charge ahead with the event has led to a fair amount of mainstream criticism, but WWE seems determined to weather the storm, figuring that if they can survive the steroid trials and Chris Benoit’s murder-suicide and the aftermath, then they can survive anything.

It was interesting that Michael Cole had to mention several times that Crown Jewel was starting at noon on the U.S. East Coast, which would only happen because they’re in a foreign country (but then don’t mention which foreign country).

But they called it a “global PPV” on multiple occasions, which appears to be the code for Crown Jewel taking place outside North America.
