5. More Tag Teams Like This

A couple months ago, the team of Wesley Blake and Buddy Murphy were jobbing to most of their opponents despite looking pretty crisp in the ring. The NXT announcers referenced it themselves during Wednesday€™s tag title match. Despite the sudden shift from stepping stones to NXT Tag Team Champions, the duo look like they€™ve been teaming for a long time and carry themselves as underdogs who just go out as compete like hell. Blake and Murphy weren€™t doing anything of note individually before they teamed up. By partnering they two, NXT bolstered its tag ranks while giving two floundering wrestlers something to do. If this sounds familiar, WWE fans should recognize the parallels with Tyson Kidd and Cesaro. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=064CmTBx-zE Once upon a time, wrestling promotions used to use tag teams as a way to give talent something productive to do to build names for themselves. Some of the best wrestlers in WWE history have started out in tag teams, so seeing Blake and Murphy €“ who have a killer running suplex/frogsplash combo finisher €“ partnered and finding success hopefully bodes well for other superstars.
