Sting did have a cup of coffee in the nWo as a red and black version of his 'Crow' character over in WCW, but he's best remembered as the main protagonist fighting against the New World Order menace. WWE didn't care one bit about honouring that. They had to cram in some distractions for WrestleMania 31's battle between the Stinger and staunch WWE loyalist Triple H.

He'd save the day against WCW incomer Sting a full 14 years after World Championship Wrestling had gone out of business. No, the story leading into this 'Mania scrap didn't make much logical sense. People were willing to roll with it just to see Sting work inside a WWE ring though. Then, the actual match happened and it was a slow, ponderous affair with a baffling conclusion.

Stinger staring at the lights and looking like a loser during his very first match in the promotion was bad enough, but then there was the tacked on nWo spot. Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall wandered out to have their old WCW enemy's back against a dude everybody knew The Outsiders were good friends with. Huh? Then, their efforts proved fruitless as Sting lost to hunter anyway.

Huh?!

WWE wanted to put as many iconic names out there as possible. Understandable, but it isn't much to ask that the formatting adds up or that a legendary wrestler like Sting gets to look strong when he's a hot new ticket in the company's main event scene. This creative spat on Stinger and his history with the nWo in one fell swoop.

Everybody was dead wrong about Sting being finished once he got to AEW, at least.
