6 Best WWE Extreme Rules PPVs Ever
4. Extreme Rules 2010
2010 was a rather better display though, thanks in part to the presence of the two top-tier titles on the card.
One of which saw John Cena defeat Batista in a great Last Man Standing match. Cena emerged victorious after tying Batista’s ankles to the turnbuckle post, which admittedly was a slightly goofy finish, but that shouldn’t be allowed to detract from their 25 minute battle.
There was also a pretty stacked undercard. Edge defeated Chris Jericho in a Steel Cage match to end a significant rivalry, while Sheamus did the same when he beat Triple H in a Street Fight—forcing the Game out of storylines for 10 months as a result.
CM Punk and Rey Mysterio also did battle in a hair match, in what was another great chapter from the memorable Straight Edge Society angle. The oddly one-sided stipulation meant that Punk’s hair lived to die another day, while Mysterio escaped scot-free, which I guess you could put down to questionable storytelling but at least there was a pay-off the following month.
That quartet of bouts was enough to make this another slight above average Extreme Rules display, as the PPV slowly but surely began strengthening its brand name.
