6 Best WWE Pay-Per-View Segments
2. Heyman's Home Truths (One Night Stand 2005)
If there's ever a time when you can forgive WWE for filling a spare 10 minutes with a promo instead of a match, it's when the microphone is in the hands of Paul Heyman, perhaps the greatest trash-talker in the history of wrestling not named Stone Cold or The Rock.
This was the scene of the inaugural One Night Stand in 2005, where - in the middle of the show - the ECW mastermind took aim at the Raw and SmackDown wrestlers watching from up in the rafters, a segment that has since gone down in YouTube legend because of how rare it is to see a WWE employee let loose in this sort of no-punches-pulled fashion.
The best moment of the promo, by popular consent, came when Heyman said what we were all thinking about JBL. "The only reason you were WWE Champion for a year," he said, "is because Triple H didn't wanna work Tuesdays." Like all great one-liners, it was funny because it was true.
But it was so much more than that. Leading the Hammerstein Ballroom crowd in a Matt Hardy chant, for example, when Edge - whose affair with Lita had only recently been exposed to the public - was sitting right there in the crowd. For that alone, this was definitely a pay-per-view promo.
