Less than a month after not even featuring on the Elimination Chamber card, Asuka was given the opportunity to defend her SmackDown Women's Championship at Fastlane. The only problem was that her defence came in the form of a match against Mandy Rose that apparently brought an end to a feud that nobody wanted to see in the first place.

With forgettable action, this short bout seemingly concluded this uninspired story and just didn't really have that much to offer. The slightly messy finish, which saw Rose trip on the part of the apron that Sonya Deville accidentally left on the ring (leaving her wide open to an abrupt kick from Asuka) just felt completely unnecessary as nobody really bought her as a credible threat to Asuka anyway, so why couldn't 'The Empress of Tomorrow' just have decisively defeated her?

The answer to that question undoubtedly has something to do with the post-match argument between Rose and Deville, but is that really more important than focusing on the SmackDown Women's Champion, who now has apparently found herself without a clear direction for WrestleMania?
