6 Ups & 2 Downs From WWE SmackDown (Sept 2)

Ups...

6. JBL’s Return

JBL Happy Corbin
WWE

Onto the good, and there was a lot of it.

WWE implied that none other than JBL will become Happy Corbin's new manager following Corb's loss to old crown rival Shinsuke Nakamura. What's that? Yes, yes the whole 'King' battle between those dudes does feel like it happened in 1986. TV moves fast, people.

This wasn't exactly a full comeback, because Layfield didn't actually appear on screen, but the story is worth running with; it's a totally fresh direction for Corbin, and JBL can certainly talk. Basically, their union is an experiment worth trying, 'cause you never know what could spin out of it.

If Trips succeeds in turning Corbin from loud-shirt-wearing jerk into the next coming of JBL, then he deserves a medal. Is this the start of Baron's true main event push? Probably not, but it'll be a fun trip down memory lane for older fans who recall Layfield's peak.
