Women’s wrestling in WWE has come so incredibly far during the past decade, from an afterthought and eye candy to an integral part of the show. It feels completely unfair to boil a segment down to some screeching from one wrestler, but that’s what really stood out in an otherwise dull offering.

Lyra Valkyria – who has cooled off considerably after a hot start to her main roster run this spring – battled Zoey Stark in an average-at-best match that didn’t really elicit a lot of reaction from the crowd. Both women are solid wrestlers, and this was not their best effort. The finish saw Shayna Baszler and Sonya Deville get involved, allowing Stark to pick up the win with a Z-360.

Before a beatdown could commence, Kayden Carter and Katana Chance made their big return for the save… to zero pop. Their repeated calls to the crowd finally got a modest, polite response. Backstage, Chance screamed about how Pure Fusion Collective broke her nose and the party girls were going to get revenge. Enter the Unholy Union, and more screaming ensued.

For whatever reason, it’s virtually impossible to care about or invest in any of these characters at the moment. Chance and Carter in particular feel so unserious when they try to sound like ass-kickers, just screeching louder while being more than a half-foot shorter than the average-sized Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn.

Someone needs to come up with a new formula for this part of the women’s roster, because it’s a black hole right now, and it’s really depressing to see talented wrestlers flounder in silence.
