6 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE SmackDown (19 June - Results & Review)
4. Young OG And “Unc” Nail Their Spot
Both tournament semi finals on this week's show told well-crafted stories.
On the men's side, Jey Uso vs. Je’Von Evans was a fun ride. Your writer enjoyed the story of Evans subtly disrespecting Jey because he could see that Uso subtly disrespects him. Both guys told a good tale here, and there was some solid action into the bargain. This has been a positive King Of The Ring tournament experience for Je’Von overall, and it’s clear his best days are ahead of him.
No, this fan can’t say the prospect of Jey challenging Cody at SummerSlam is stellar, but his own semi final work was a credit to SmackDown. Evans was booked to look spirited whilst injured and hang with someone with way more experience too, and Uso deserves a bit of extra praise for willingly giving the younger star a platform to shine. This was maybe the best Jey has looked in a singles setting for a long time.
He didn't gas up here either, for the record. Je'Von moves like a cat no matter how deep into the match he is, and Uso was right there with him every step of the way. There was next to no sloppiness from either man even when things raced towards the crescendo. That's heartening for Jey, not least because he took a lot of flak for some of his matches mid-main event push last year.
Seriously, check this semi out even if you typically skip most of Uso's singles bouts and don't see the hype.
