6 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE SmackDown (March 15 - Results & Review)

4. Rey Mysterio’s Fire

Quick 'Up' here, but a valid one.

Rey Mysterio showed lots and lots of fire when challenging former protege Santos Escobar to that singles match on next week's SmackDown. Mic work has never really been Rey's strength, but he had vigour to his voice in Memphis. He has a goal in mind too: Elevate Escobar to greater heights once the feud ends.

Mysterio understands that sort of mission. WWE will also surely book a non-finish during his TV match with Santos, then motor the pair towards a clash on the undercard at WrestleMania. Why not? Escobar could use that banner moment to help set up the rest of his 2024, and his potential is clear for everyone to see.

Personally, this guy could've done without Escobar beating Dragon Lee in two minutes. There have also been wobbles (Rey's injury hasn't helped) throughout his heel turn and rise up the ranks, but Santos could become a player for WWE if they handle this correctly.

Top promo from Rey regardless.
