6. Jey Does Right By His Brother, But…
For the past couple of months, Jey Uso has regularly shown signs of a heel edge to his character, hardening as his path to the World Heavyweight Championship becomes more difficult.
Factor in mixed messages from Roman Reigns, and you have a very conflicted Main Event Jey trying to navigate these emotions. Jey and Jimmy tried to help Roman at Crown Jewel, only to be berated. From that, Jey took away that he should be more selfish. That fed into his feelings about Clash in Paris, when the brothers got hurt bailing out Reigns, and then Jey went into his four-way for the World Heavyweight Championship injured – and he lost.
Monday, Jey stressed to Jimmy that he wasn’t going to come bail him out if he ran into trouble with The Vision because he needed to focus on his number one contender’s match for the world title, and he couldn’t risk getting hurt before a big match again.
Of course, Jey ended up doing what was right and saved Jimmy, but he ate a Bronson Reed corner splash in the process, and then proceeded to berate Jimmy for falling victim to the attack and drawing him into the middle of things again. Compounding the issue, Jey would not only lose his triple threat for a title shot, but he got pinned.
All of this is only going to drive Jey further down a dark path, even as he continues to show glimmers of that good guy everyone loves. It’s a nice juxtaposition between the two characteristics, and it will be interesting to see which one wins out.
