2. Impromptu Tag Gives Way To Impromptu 6-Man

The WWE trope of a main event match ending in a DQ due to interference, only for it to restart with added players is a well-worn one.

But when it’s an impromptu match replacing another impromptu match? Come on… Book better. It’s not that hard to at least pretend that there was a main event for the show. Otherwise, what was going to occupy the last half-hour of the show?

Cody Rhodes running out to make the save and Adam Pearce making the six-man tag made sense, both from a storyline sense and from a TV booking perspective. Of course, Rhodes would call for a restart to the match, and Pearce saw his main event thwarted with plenty of TV time remaining, so naturally, he would want something to take its place.

And even though the actual main event ended up being an absolute joy to watch, it’s impossible to ignore the lazy booking crutches WWE constantly use in making matches on their shows. Giving them a pass just because the matches themselves are good isn’t fair, nor is it going to lead to an improvement in the situation.
