Karrion Kross truly has made the most of his limited opportunities in backstage segments. He’s managed to turn a “devil’s advocate” character into someone who has somehow found himself adjacent to a main-event-level storyline.
Kross has been in Sami Zayn’s orbit for some time now, warning him and urging him to turn heel and be selfish because being “a good guy” doesn’t work. Monday night, Karrion called Sami out, saying he’s lying to the fans and to himself by trying to be good. Kross said Zayn “could have been a world champion ten times over” by now, but he has refused to be a bad guy “like the rest of us.”
Unlike previous encounters, Sami – who had just suffered yet another attack from Seth Rollins’ crew (with another on the way) – didn’t forcefully blow Kross off, simply telling him that he was “wrong.” That’s not exactly the vocal denial you’d expect from a purely virtuous babyface. The cracks are starting to show, and things are wearing on him.
Sami fed into this belief during his entrance alongside Jey Uso, donning sunglasses and dancing and yeeting along with the World Heavyweight Champion like a good-natured sidekick. How long do you think that will last until frustration takes over?
The only question is whether Kross will get to take a victory lap when things finally go south for Sami.
