6 Ups & 7 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (Jan 3)
2. Maybe Don’t Have Them Lose Every Match
So it looks like WWE is positioning Alpha Academy to be RK-Bro’s next tag title opponent. That’s great, except for a couple things…
Alpha Academy hasn’t won a straight tag match since March, including losing in the first round of the RK-Bro-nament last month. That’s horrible, but then look at the duo’s luck against RK-Bro. Chad Gable lost singles matches to both Randy Orton and Riddle last month, while Otis beat Riddle but lost to Orton.
So when Alpha Academy defeated the reigning Raw Tag Team Champions Monday night, it truly was out of nowhere. They literally haven’t won a tag match since before WrestleMania 37 and lost three of four singles matches against the tag champs. But now of course, we’re supposed to take them seriously as challengers.
WWE could have had them wrestle on the kickoff show at Day 1 and defeat the Mysterios or the Hurt Business to at least give them a semblance of momentum, but having a team that’s been glorified jobbers suddenly knocking off the tag champs is abrupt and smacks of lazy, snap booking.
