6 Ups And 5 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (Aug 14)

2. ‘Viscous, Acidic Liquid’

It’s been nearly 20 years since a trio of wrestlers known as The Brood tormented the then-WWF by dimming the lights and covering their adversaries in a red liquid.

Known as a bloodbath, the dousing was both creepy and disgusting, but it worked for the time because The Brood’s leader was a vampire character, Gangrel. Opponents were humiliated and disgusted, but they never reacted like they were being poisoned.

Fast-forward to Monday night, after Bray Wyatt defeated Finn Balor, and the Eater of Worlds ended up with a bucket of red liquid and poured it over Balor. Finn reacted like he was being burned to death, writhing on the mat and trying to wipe the liquid from his eyes. It was just damn odd.

It turned out, as Michael Cole would say shortly afterward, that the mysterious red fluid was a “viscous, acidic liquid,” explaining why Balor acted like he was burning – he was (in storyline). Still, it was a strange incident, especially considered that Wyatt had never done anything like that before.
